Dear Mikhail,
My name is Sacha Masek and I work for a non-profit research organization located in Salt Lake City, Utah (USA) called the Sorenson Molecular Genealogy Foundation (SMGF). The main purpose of SMGF is to build a large and comprehensive database of correlated genetic and genealogical data representing as many populations and family history lineages worldwide. It is our desire to assist family historians in searching their ancestors and finding common connections using the tools of genetic genealogy. I am contacting you today to see if you have interest in learning more about our research and to ask for your assistance in collecting DNA and genealogies from Russia that will be added to our publicly available online databases.
Participation in the global SMGF database is free, private, and voluntary. Both male and female participants as young as 7 years of age are eligible to participate by submitting a copy of their pedigree chart and a simple mouthwash rinse to the study. This material is then shipped and analyzed at our laboratories in Utah, where paperwork and samples are coded and personal information from the donors is kept confidential. Genealogical data prior to 1900 and anonymous genetic data obtained from the samples are then uploaded in a public database available online at www.smgf.org. The study is reviewed quarterly by the Western Institutional Review Board (www.WIRB.com).
We are interested in making contacts with individuals who speak English and have access to the internet who would be willing to make collections of DNA and genealogies among their family and friends where they live. Again, there is no cost to the participant. We are willing to pay up to $5 USD per usable sample to a collector who returns collections of 20 or more participants.
If you are interested in learning more about SMGF and contributing to the SMGF Database, please contact me. That you for your consideration.
Sincerely,
Sacha Masek
